What Causes Neck Pain?
Neck pain can arise for a variety of reasons, some of which even include injuries to the back and spine. Most commonly, neck pain is a result of injury such as whiplash, muscle strain, or a pinched nerve. While all of these conditions can be painful, neck pain is generally quick to heal on its own. For patients experiencing severe cases of neck pain, we offer a number of pain relief treatments that will enable patients to resume normal activities with minimal discomfort.
How is a Stiff Neck Treated?
Like other stiffness related injuries, a stiff neck is often caused simply by muscle strain or overuse. While most cases can be treated with rest and gentle stressing, severe cases may require a different approach. We provide therapies and medications to help patients overcome this discomfort.
Can Pain from Whiplash be Treated?
Whiplash is a form of neck strain most often caused by car accidents, although any sudden movement of the neck can cause symptoms. We typically recommend injections or nerve stimulation treatments to reduce the pain, and encourage patients to pursue physical therapy to further alleviate pain and discomfort.
Treatment for Pinched Nerves In Neck
Pinched nerves typically occur as a result of tissues exerting pressure on the nerves. This causes the nerve’s signals to be interrupted, causing pain, spasms and other symptoms. Fortunately, most pinched nerves heal on their own within a few days or weeks. However, severe cases, which can lead to pain spreading throughout the back, may lead patients to consider treatment. For pinched nerves, we generally recommend cortisone injections, also called corticosteroid injections. This technique relieves pain and reduces inflammation in the treatment area.
